StepStones for Youth (www.stepstonesforyouth.com) is an innovative and dynamic charitable organization in Toronto dedicated to providing intervention and sustainable support for children and youth. Many of these youth are exiting the foster care and group home system or are currently living in foster homes and shelters.

The Opportunity
StepStones for Youth is seeking a Human Resources Officer to oversee the organization’s Human Resources including full-cycle recruitment, policy and procedure development, and developing and implementing HR initiatives and systems. This position will also be responsible for building strategies to improve employee engagement and retention while cultivating a positive culture.
What you will be responsible for:
- Full-cycle recruitment: developing job postings, screening candidates, conducting initial interviews, checking references, drafting employment agreements, etc.;
- Develop and update job descriptions;
- Supports Leadership with the performance management process;
- Develop and update HR related policies and procedures;
- Maintain employee records (attendance, EEO data, etc.) according to policy and legal requirements;
- Create, implement, and conduct effective onboarding plans;
- Develop training and development programs;
- Administer the benefits and RRSP plans;
- Provide support to employees in various HR-related topics such as leaves and compensation and resolve any issues that may arise;
- Gather and analyze data with useful HR metrics, such as time to hire and employee turnover rates;
- Enhance job satisfaction by resolving issues promptly, applying new perks and benefits, and organizing team building activities.
What we’re looking for:
- Degree or diploma in human resources management, business administration or similar with a minimum of 5 years of experience.
- Full understanding of HR functions and best practices.
- Good working knowledge of relevant employment legislation.
- Access to a vehicle and a valid full G Class Ontario Driver’s License with appropriate insurance is required.
- Experience in working with diverse cultures and communities. A thorough understanding of anti-oppression, anti-Black and Indigenous racism values and principles and an appreciation of and ability to work with diverse communities.
- Experienced motivational interviewer with the ability to create a comfortable interview environment;
- Highly effective written and oral communication skills, problem solving, advocacy and assessment skills;
- Effective interpersonal skills including the ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with internal and external resources and community partnership;
- Strong computer/internet skills and knowledge of case management systems, reporting procedures and responsibilities and the ability to work within those systems;
- Strong communications, organizational, and time management skills; accountability, reliability, and punctuality, and the ability to work effectively and independently under the pressure of tight timelines, competing priorities and emergent issues.
