Youth Connection Coordinators support the mental health of youth in our program by connecting them with practitioners, accompanying them to their appointments, and supporting them through the process of recovery. We engage young people in meditation, yoga, and mindfulness workshops that promote stress reduction techniques to support healthy living and educational attainment. Individuals in youth’s networks of support provide pivotal assistance with advocating for accommodations in schools for learning disabilities, mental health issues, and other challenges that may become barriers to success.

StepStones connects young people in our program with physicians and counsellors as well as with a psychotherapist trained in permanency-competence and trauma-informed therapy as needed. With the support of caregivers and mentors, youth can receive ongoing trauma therapy to stabilize and improve mental health and develop strategies for healthy living to support challenges with substance use, physical health, and isolation.

Healthy Living

StepStones provides intensive and ongoing programming and services to improve the mental health of young people from foster care who have significant histories of trauma, abuse, and other adverse childhood experiences. With support from Youth Connection Coordinators, caregivers, and volunteer mentors, young people receive critical intervention to stabilize their mental health and access a myriad of supports to increase abilities for coping, communicating, and connecting towards long-term physical, mental, and emotional health and strength.
