Heather O’Keefe founded StepStones in 2004. She has been the residential summer camp director and the Executive Director since this time.
Heather believes that charities have a responsibility to operate efficiently and most importantly effectively. She believes that donor dollars must go directly to programs that have proven ability to effect positive change. She also believes that Ontario can do better at raising the youth in our care system and as such developed and implemented a camp program and a mentorship program for youth transitioning out of the foster care and group home system. She believes that with a greater focus on supporting youth to increase educational attainment, employment and housing stability – the greater community benefits.
Heather has over 14 years experience working with the child protection and child welfare system in both front line investigations , foster homes, group homes and assessment. She has also been a project manager, event coordinator, and has been largely responsible for the development of StepStones.
